英语教学论 Relationship of three terms Approach theoretical Method Technique practical Note: Techniques must be consistent with a method, and therefore in harmony with an approach as well. Views on language the structural view结构主义理论 Def: sees language as a linguistic system made up of various subsystems the sound system、 the discrete units of meaning produced by sound combination 、 the system of combining units of meaning for communication . Content: to learn a language means to learn these structural items Aim: to understand and produce language The functional view功能主义理论 : Def: not only sees language as a linguistic system but also a means for doing things. Content: know how to combine the grammatical rules and the vocabulary to express notions that perform the function Aim: to do things the interactional view.互相作用理论: Def: considers language to be a communicative tool Content: to know the grammar and vocabulary of the language but as importantly they need to know the rules for using them in a whole range of communicative contexts . Aim: to build up and maintain social relations between people. Final tips: 1. The structural view limits knowing a language to knowing its structural rules and vocabulary. 2. The communicative or notional-functional view adds the need to know how to use the rules and vocabulary to do whatever one wants to do. 3. The interactional view says that to know how to do what you want to do involves also knowing whether it is appropriate to do, and where, when and how it is appropriate to do it.
