CASE “Students for Alternative Medicine” case study Misunderstanding in the small group To function effectively as a team, members must learn to put their thoughts and feelings into signals that other members can interpret and respond to THROUGHPUT PROCESSES Remember that communication is a part of the throughput processes that helps to get the work done and the goals achieved. Knowing more about the communication process will enable us to observe and improve our interpersonal communication and thus increase the likelihood that goals will be achieved. Communication What’s that? Communication defined: Process of creating, sending, receiving and interpreting signals between people There are five major characteristics to this seemingly simple definition: 1. Symbolic Communication CD: Does the phrase, “I love you,” or the word “commitment” mean the same thing to each relational partner that uses the phrase or word? What about the word, “deadline”? 2.
