An Empirical Study of College Students Attribution in Oral English Learning Abstract: This essay presents an empirical study of college oral English learners attribution in their study with the following elements covered, research questions, subjects selection, methodology designing,and finding reports as well. Keywords: Attribution empirical study As one of the interior individual learner factors, attribution is gaining the concern of linguists and language teachers. [1-3] An empirical study is reported in the essay to improve the teaching and learning of oral English, one of the ultimate goals in college English language learning. 1. Research question The study was designed to address questions as follows. A. What are the general characteristics of students’ attribution in the area of oral English learning? B. What is the inner-relation between those factors which affect students’ attribution? C.How does students’ attribution in oral English learning correlate to their performance in oral English examination? 2. Subjects selection The target population of the study is the 70 senior students from a University in Hangzhou, yet the final sample only consists of 65 cases after the uncompleted and unusable data has been identified. Of the 65 students, 5 are males and 60 females. 3. Methodology designing A written questionnaire is adopted in the present research, which, in brief, consists of three parts, i.e., set questions about their oral English learning, semi-structured questions to find out more information of the topic, and the participants individual background information.This survey is carried out in the break time between two classes, lasting about 10 minutes. The English teacher is present and all the details on the questionnaire are clarified on spot. 4.
