Wonderful postage stamp paintings
Molly Rausch, an American artist, really enjoys mailing people things. Inspired① by an envelope of foreign stamps that she got from her dad fourteen years ago, she created this new kind of painting. She explores the background world and shows us what’s going on outside of each stamp’s tiny frame. Without researching her subjects ahead of time, Molly lets her imagination② take her to strange and interesting places in this way. What a clever idea!
Her special paintings are usually around three inches tall. Everything is done freehand③ with a brush. She doesn’t use pens or pencils. She starts each piece by gluing the stamp to a sheet of paper, and then uses watercolour and gouache④ to extend the small-scale scenes.
It’s fun to think how many stories a single postage stamp has. Would you like to do something like her? Have a try!
The tallest LEGO tower built in Seoul
In celebration of LEGO’s 80th birthday, LEGO Korea has built a tower taller than the previous⑤ world record holder built in France.
With over 50,000 bricks, 4,000 contest winners spent five days building in an event that attracted⑥ more than 30,000 visitors. The building was set outside the Olympic City stadium in Seoul, South Korea. The Crown Prince⑦ of Denmark placed the final, record-breaking brick on the tower that reached 31.9 metres. The previous record for the tallest LEGO tower was 31.6 metres high.
LEGO has had a strong presence⑧ in Asia for many years and was the first branded⑨ toy in the Korean market. The company hopes the events like this will bring families together to have fun and enjoy the power of the brick.
