LOGO LOGO Indoor location overview on IEEE 1/14 UWB group: C. Huang Q.Y. Zhao Z.C. Zhong ——A summarization and exploration perspective 2/14 Survey of Wireless Indoor Positioning Techniques and Systems Double click the video below, or click here: 3/14 By reviewing the topic of wireless indoor positioning, we come about three points to study a system: What it used for location information: Physical location, Symbolic location, Absolute location, etc. application: asset tracking, detection of medical personnel or equipment, etc. What infrastructure is used WLAN, UWB, RFID, etc. What algorithm is used TOA, TDOA, RSS-Based, etc. 4/14 To evaluate the performance of a positioning technique, we use several metrics: Accuracy: Consider the value of mean distance errors. Precision: Consider how consistently the system works. Complexity: measure the design of hardware, software and operation factors. An obvious indicator is computing time Robustness: Performance when some signals are blocked. Scalability: Performance when some positioning scope gets larger. Cost: Designing, installation, maintenance. 5/14 To develop a geolocation system, we choose from two approachs: Using an existing wireless network infrastructure, by adding a location server. Developing both network infrastructure and signaling system focused on geolocation application. It mainly depends on the infrastructure, namely, the system solution to be used. For example, such a location system can use WLAN by adding a location sever for central processing. When no existing network for other applications is suitable, developing such a system is a must. It’s time-consuming and expensive. 6/14 To design a dedicated system, we divide it into three parts: Hardware Construction. Networking and Communication. Software: Runtime Environment and Location Algorithm. i.e. : CPU, Memory, Inner/external Bus, Common peripherals, etc. i.e. : specialized communication interface, optional co-processors i.e. : software environment for
