PURPOSE This circular provides guidelines on the November 2007 Grade 11 National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations. 2. LEGISLATIVE FRAMEWORK 2.1 The National Senior Certificate: A qualification at Level 4 on the National Qualification Framework (NQF), July 2005. 2.2 An addendum to the policy document, The National Senior certificate: A qualification at level 4 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), regarding the National Protocol for Assessment (Grades R –12), published as Government Notice No. 1267 in the Government Gazette, Volume 498, No 29467 of 11 December 2006. 2.3 Subject Assessment Guidelines for the National Curriculum Statements Grade 10 – 12, January 2007. 3. BACKGROUND 3.1 In preparation for the first National Senior Certificate (NSC) external examination in 2008 the National Department of Education appointed examiners and moderators who in 2006 prepared Grade 10 exemplar papers in all subjects for all schools and examination papers in a few subjects. These were written by twelve pilot schools throughout the province. For 2007 Grade 11 exemplar papers have been prepared in all subjects, to provide schools with a question paper to guide teachers in the setting of tests and internal examinations. 3.2 For November 2007 the Department of Education has set question papers for all 28 subjects listed in the Curriculum (excluding Life Orientation) and these will be made available to the provincial education departments (PEDs).
