Patients and volunteers do not appear to be aware of the major effects on sleep with antidepressants. However, some complain of increased vividness of dreaming early in treatment, perhaps as the REM periods are delayed and the last coincides with normal waking time. Healthy volunteers complain of poor sleep maintenance matching the disrupted sleep architecture described before.
