Educational Plan for Master Degree Program Structural Engineering Major （）V.Thesis-writing a. Preliminary examination of a master graduate student should be executed according to the regulation of education of a master graduate student in Tongji University. There must be a public preliminary presentation followed with questions and evaluation. The evaluation members of the presentation are not less than 3, including the student’s advisor. The position of other two members must not be lower than assistant professor with Ph.D. In general, the number of reviewed literatures should be more than 30, including 20 from the nation and 10 outside the country. After the defense of master. dissertation has been completed, the reviewed literatures must be more than 50 papers, including 30 Chinese papers and 20 foreign papers. b. Advisors should call for academic meetings periodically to encourage students’ communication about researches. c. A master graduate student should finish the dissertation independently and creatively based on advisor’s instruction. The quality of dissertation should demonstrate that the educational objectives have been completely achieved. d. Basically, a dissertation should be written in Chinese. International students can write it in English or other language approved by committee members and Graduate School with detail abstract in Chinese. e. All dissertations of master graduate students must be evaluated confidentially. The evaluation organized by the academic degree office in Shanghai is executed by Graduate School. f. When a master graduate student is applying for defense of dissertation, having achieved educational objectives but not up to requirements of paper publication, the defense can be approved after verified by the academic degree committee.
