Analyses on the Use of Communicative Teaching Approach in Middle School Cai Li Class7,, Grade 2010, School of Foreign Languages and Literature, Chongqing Normal University Abstract:Communicative teaching approach is based on negative structural linguistics theory in the 70s of the twentieth Century in British, which is dominated in Chinese schools nowadays. It is focused on the cultivation of communicative competence that is assosicated with the grammar of language learning in practical communication. Students not only master the grammar and pragmatic rules of language, but also apply these knowledge into the actual uses. This paper emphasizes the combination of the particularity of communicative language teaching and students in order to teach students in accordance with their aptitude, thus stimulating students’ interest in learning the language, giving full play to students language potential, exploring a Chinese way of communicative teaching method, and finally, improving the effectiveness of English teaching. Key words:teaching method; middle school stuedents;specificity;validity 1 Introduction 1.1 Brief introduction to the communicative teaching approach From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, along with the birth of social language, social linguist D.H.Hymes put forward the concept of communicative capability that emphasized the social culture particulity, communicative competence of language as well as the using skills, which lately provided theory basis and target guide for CLT.(Xu Qiang, 2010:2) Communicative teaching method is also called function method, which is formed in the 1970s.It is based on the work of the American social anthropologists, linguists Hymes, Analysis on the Communicative Ability, putting the language functional items into focus in order to cultivate the students’ communicative ability.
