Unit 3 Manners
The first teaching period (2 hours)
Text A: Good Manners
Teaching aims:
Mastering the pronunciation, spelling and meaning of new words.
Learning about the main usage of important words and some phrases
knowing about the background knowledge.
Main points:
words: honor, attend, buffoon, rude, grin
phrases: relate to, in case, at the beginning of
Teaching process:
Introduction of the new class
Talking about our chinese manners which we familiar with; The importance of proper manners in life; let studuents to guess and disccuss what the differences in manner between chinese and english
II. Reading new words
1. The students read the new words after the teacher.
2. Some students read the words as examples.
III. Explaining new words
1. honor vt. 尊敬,给以荣誉
e.g.—Medal of honor。
荣誉勋章
2. attend vt. 出席,参加
e.gI’m gonna attend a banquet
我要去赴个宴
3. buffoon n. 小丑
e.gthey pictured their mannager as a buffoon
他们把经理描绘成一个小丑
4. rude a. 粗鲁的,无理的
e.g.she was donwright rude
她十分粗鲁
5. grin vi. 露齿而笑
e.g.—grin and bear it
学吃亏,多忍辱
IV. Explaining phrases
1. relate to
e.g. All these questions relate to philosophy
这些问题都跟哲学有关.
2. in case
e.g. You know, just in case
你知道,这只是以防万一罢了。
3.at the beginning of
e.g.—They uncovered the statue at the beginning of the ceremony.
仪式开始时,他们揭去了塑像的罩子
V. Analyzing Text A
1. Lead-in Activity Self-test on Page 73
2. Introduce the text while bring out some questions as kind of guiding
3. Reading the text and asking some questions
4. Language points:
1) The most important thing when honoring guests from foreign countries is to accept and understand the differences.
When honouring guest是状语从句,其中在when和honouring之间省略了people are。如果when引导的时间状语从句中的主语和主句中的主语是相同的话,状语从句中的主语和系动词可以省略。如:
When walking in the street I noticed a police car in front of the shop.
走在大街上的时候,我发现那家店铺门前停了一辆警车。
to accept and understand the differences是动词不定式,在句中作表语。动词不定式可在句中作表语。如:
To truly live is to take charge of your libe
