On the Aristocratic Culture of the British People from the Manor Culture Abstract: “The ideal life of worlds great harmony is to live in English countryside, in a house equipped with American pipes of water, electricity and gas, to hire a Chinese cook, to wive a Japanese woman, and to find a French lover.[1]”With such famous saying by Lin Yutang,people all over the world are attracted to the romantic British countryside,where manors make symbolism of wealth and status.Indeed,it is the most ideal living style of the British to live in the countryside ,with a small otherworldly sort of place,and everyone is willing to devote his life to it.It is very common to see manors in Britain novels,TV series,and movies.Not only the tremendous,beautiful castle,the aristocrat,with house keepers,servants,maids,has aroused large curiosity. The British insist that they do not belong to the city, but to the countryside they are not living in.They think the real British people are rural people.[2]The lure of rural life is proving as strong as ever.It indicates an aristocratic complex of the British people.At first let’s get a fair idea of manor. The typical estate of a manor is usually a village, but there are some large estates that include several villages, of course, some of the small manor is only part of a village.Noble people yearn for the fresh air and freedom of the countryside, they invest in the countryside near cities to build their own small world,with large greensward.Every village has a main street--the activity center of the residents,both sides of the which are historic buildings.After Christianity having been spread to England, local residents gradually established monasteries and churches with tall tower.
