* Unit 5 The power of nature Step1 Lead-in Act out your dialogue in the situation. Your group go to a volcano to collect a sample of boiling lava, take measurement in the crater and fly over a volcano to make a map of the direction of the lava. You will meet a lot of difficulties and have to overcome them. Listen to three volcanologists talking about frightening experience in their work life. The texts model ways to express feelings of anxiety and fear. Step2 Listening Look at the three pictures of volcanologists at work. After first listening, write their names under the pictures. (3) Why did he/she forget to be frightened ? Jane Small : (1) Five years. (2) Alaska. She was excited about what she had done. Frank Gore : (1) Ten years. (2) Hawaii. The pilot had to fly to get under the clouds Sarah Tang : (1) Twenty years. (2) New Zealand. She felt the ground tremble. 3. Listen to the tape once more. Write the names of the person before the things they said. I was so excited about what I have done and where I was, I forgot my fear. Jane Small (2) I was very worried that the volcano might erupt while I was still inside it. Sarah (3) I was very relieved when we finally reached our camp. Frank Gore (4) I was trembling almost as much as the ground under my feet. Sarah Tang (5) I was still terrified. Jane Small (6) I was so nervous that my whole body was damp with sweat.
