A: Have you ever been to Shanghai?
B: Yes, I have.
A: Where did you go there?
B: I went there two weeks ago.
A: When did you leave Shanghai?
B: I left there two days ago.
A: How long have you stayed there?
B: I have stayed there for twelve days.
Work in pairs.
Ⅱ、按要求改写句子。
1. My parents have been to Nantong .(一般疑问句)
2. My father has just gone fishing .(对划线部分提问)
3. The students there have studied French for two years .(同上)
4. One of the girls has bought three pencils .( 同上)
5. The boys have been to South Hill many times .( 同上)
Step 2 Presenting
We can say: Jim has stayed in Shanghai for 12 days. He left there two days ago. But we can’t say: Jim has left Shanghai for two days. Because some verbs, such as ‘ come’, ‘go’ and ‘leave’ cannot be used with continuous time adverbials such as ‘ for two hours’ or ‘since last month’. To talk about an action that happened at a point in the past, we will have to use ‘ago’ and the simple past tense.
