On Redundancies in Financial News and Legal Texts and Translation Strategies to Them Abstract Redundancy is originally a part in Information Theory and gradually adapted to translation research in recent years, helping translators better understand the methods of translating. Redundancy is a necessary part in the language, helping transmitting information more fluently while causing some certain repetition. But different kinds of texts share various intentions and readers, so the redundancies in different texts also own various characteristics. This article discusses the redundancy in financial news and legal texts. It also gives out different translation strategies to them. According to Eugene A. Nida’s functional equivalence theory and Reiss’ trichotomy to the texts, this article analyses the redundancy with the functional theory. Financial news holds the characteristics of briefness and professionalism. Financial news is the informative text, which just need simple translation. The Legal text holds the characteristics of extremely accuracy, which is expressive text. The legal texts translation need show the original emotion and affection. This paper analyses the phenomenon of redundancy in English-Chinese translation of financial news and legal texts, and gives out several processing mechanisms to them. .
