WPE PE Subject Description Fall Semester 2011-12 WPE2020 Experiential Arts [1] 皮影戏Shadow Drama Shadow Drama as one of traditional Chinese culture which is popular in the west of China, it’s a kind of play which combines drawing, engraving and opera. This workshop will talk about the Shadow Drama culture and its development in China and also teach student to play. [2] 漆画课程Lacquer Painting Traditional Chinese lacquer painting is painting art, and has more than 7000 years history. It compromises oil painting, traditional Chinese painting, print and gouache and many kinds of art forms and characteristics. Their products are beautifully brighter colored than main material of natural paint. It also has gold, silver, lead, tin, eggshell, shells, flake, wood, etc. In just eight weeks of study, students can learn tracing lacquer, painting, engraved paint, lacquer and splashed enchase skill. Eventually the completion of finished works will be for exhibition. It is art but also a practical adornment. It can be used as a permanent preservation works collection. Beginners can register and participate. The course will cultivate students’ understanding of picture composition, lacquered painting and making of the material properties. Material cost: ￥100 for each student, containing one 40cmX40cm lacquer board, natural paint, lacquer powder, grinding slice of lacquer board materials.
