PUBLIC EDUCATION INDUSTRIAL OUTREACH PUBLIC EDUCATION INDUSTRIAL OUTREACH QUALITATIVE RESULTS Municipality: City of Orinda Permit Year: (2008/2009) Introduction: The City of Orinda (the City) regards public education about protecting surface water quality as a key component of the municipal NPDES program. Without education of our residents, including school-age children to grandparent-age adults, our creeks would not be as clean and free-flowing as they are. In the 2007-2008 annual report, we stated that the goals for the 2008-2009 fiscal year were pending issuance of the Municipal Regional Permit. Since that issuance did not occur, we undertook similar Public Education and Industrial Outreach (PEIO) activities as last year, which augment those conducted by the Contra Costa Clean Water Program (Program). These efforts have resulted in better-educated residents and business owners in the City whose awareness was raised regarding: ? Causes and effects of stormwater pollution, ? Differences between the sanitary sewer and the storm drain system, ? How to protect our many creeks and two watersheds through participation in ongoing creek restoration efforts and daily actions, and ? Adoption of less polluting and more environmentally sensitive practices. Implementation Evaluation: Participation in PEIO Subcommittee and Program Activities Implementation of PEIO activities was performed primarily by the Stormwater Program Manager (Cathleen Terentieff). As the primary staff responsible for implementing PEIO activities, the Stormwater Program Manager is the designated representative responsible for implementation of the PEIO performance standards in conjunction with Program activities and for acting as a liaison with the PEIO Subcommittee. The Stormwater Program Manager works closely with the Planning Department staff, the IDCA Inspector, the Contra Costa County Sanitary District (CCCSD) inspector, and the County Building Inspection Departme
