(1997) Week 1 Introduction to the human resource management system This week is intended to provide a background of HRM in organizations. The paper by Kaufman (2001) provides a good historical review of HRM and IR. The chapter of Beer et al. (1985) intends to give a more practical perspective of HRM system in organizations. Hammonds’ article challenges the current practice of HRM. In class, we will discuss introductory issues such as current trends in HRM practice and research. Kaufman, B.E.
