Design with colour 1 DAAE2005 Assignment 3 By Ying Liu SID: 309070872 Assignment 3 Introduction In the second assignment, we learn the colour preference of choosing colours and how this colour preference effect interrelated with the contrast relationship in colour design. Then, I use the knowledge which we have learned to create the pleasant schemes and unpleasant schemes by changing the colour preference of the object colours and the background colours. Therefore, We use the lightness contrast relationship, saturation contract and the colour of the overall hue combin with the saturation effect to achieve our visual experience. In this last assignment, I want to use another way to show and see how the colour effect can influence our vision system. When we see the picture, building or the environment, there were only the limite amount of the information available to our senses. This result is come from the psychologist G.A Miller published his research of “The magical number seven, plus or minus two: Some limits on our capacity for processing information”. In this research, it point out that at the time, most observers can only remember from five to nine “chunks” information. Because the limite of our capacity to senses the information, therefore, if the information too much at one time, we cannot process all of them. And in the colour design, if the colour “chunks” is more than nine, it will brings unpleasant effect and make the design appears confusing. On the other hand, if there were only one colour used in the different part of the facade, it will also appear unpleasant effect and make the elements of the facade looks same. We can use the result of the magical number seven to create the pleasant or unpleasant effect by changing the colour amount of the information “ chunks”.
