This acetate reinforces the information in the chapter concerning modes of entry into global markets. Students need to be aware that competing in global markets can range from somewhat simple efforts (indirect exporting) to complex and expensive involvement (direct investment.) The information in the acetate is structured on a bar graph to highlight to students the simplest of entries to the most complex. It’s important that students understand the different entry paths into global markets. ? 2.????? 2. See if students are aware of any successful joint ventures or strategic alliances in global markets. Companies such as Cisco and Oracle immediately come to mind. Make certain they understand that these two types of structures are similar but still different. Ask if they can explain the differences. If not, additional class time is necessary. ? 3.????? 3. Make sure that students understand the difference between licensing and franchising. They sometimes see these two modes of entry as being the same. McDonald’s and Coca-Cola are two good examples to use in explaining the differences in the two modes of entry into foreign markets. ? 4.????? 4. Nike is still the best example to present to students in understanding contract manufacturing. You might want to raise the question of “sweatshops” and contract manufacturing at this point.
