College of Architecture 1. Introduction The College of Architecture (CAr) offers four undergraduate programs (two five-year programs, Architecture and City Planning, and two four-year programs, Civil Engineering and Architectural Environment and Equipment Engineering) and three masters programs (Structure Engineering, Architecture Design and Theory, and Geotechnical Engineering). CAr has about 1,500 enrolled students. CAr consists of the Dept. of Architecture and Planning, Dept. of Civil Engineering, Architecture Engineering Laboratory Center (comprising the Structure Engineering Lab, Mechanics Lab, Construction Materials Lab, Architecture Model Room, and Architecture Physics Lab), and Architecture Design Institute and has 55 incumbent lecturers and staff members, who are mostly graduates of renowned universities, such as Tsinghua University, and are young, energetic, and vibrant and include 10 professors, 13 assistant professors, 17 lecturers, 6 National Class I Certified Architects, 7 National Class I Certified Structural Engineers, and 11 holding doctoral or postdoctoral degrees. The faculty is of a reasonable structure and has strong academic competence and practical experiences. CAr attaches great importance to undergraduate education and the combination of engineering practice and scientific research and has completed many important engineering designs and been awarded in domestic or foreign design contests or bids. Significant progress has been made in Chinese urban housing construction technique research, engineering energy-saving research, urban planning, urban transportation, new-type construction material research, frame node mechanical properties research, materials microscopic mechanical properties research, and FEMOL (Finite Element Method of Lines) research for composite material structural analysis.
