THE HISTORY. 1964 to 1985. Founded in 1964 by Mr. Peter G. Gollmer, Surveyor, a German national residing in Africa, as Geosurvey International Limited (GIL) Antigua. GIL steadily expanded from initial operations of traditional ground survey projects to by 1980, offering the following then highly sophisticated services: Airborne geophysics utilizing fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters for electromagnetic, high sensitivity magnetic, and radiometric exploration surveys Computer processing and automated plotting of geophysical data. Digital Landsat image processing, analysis and interpretation. Integrated geophysical/geological interpretation of magnetic, radiometric, electro-magnetic, gravimetric and Landsat data. Mineral and groundwater exploration including airborne and ground geophysics, geochemical sampling analysis and assay, photo geology, Landsat interpretation and geological mapping. Aerial photography using Wild RC-10 cameras capable of wide or super wide angle and high altitude photography. Photogrammetric and Ortho photo mapping. Photogrammetric digital data base compilation. Compilation of photo mosaics, either controlled or uncontrolled. Ground surveys including engineering, Doppler satellite and photo control surveys. The personnel and equipment required at that time, were rare and expensive, thus provided in-house by the company’s management. However what was at that time taken as a competitive advantage, turned out later to be an extremely costly exercise. Thus to satisfy this magnitude of expertise the company procured the most modem equipment ranging from specially modified survey aircraft to totally dedicated interactive computer Systems. The company set up a operational and data acquisition centre at Wilson Airport, Nairobi, Kenya, supported by 12 wholly-owned survey aircraft, an extensive black and white, color and infra-red film laboratory, teams of highly experienced ground surveyors and a comprehensive aircraft and electronic maintenance
