Biography: Early life and education First publication and Lyrical Ballads Germany and move to the Lake District William Wordsworth (1770-1850) Life Experience Mother died when he was 8 and Father died when he was 13 Separated from his sister, Dorothy, in 1778 and did not see her again until 1787 Visited France in 1790 and influenced by the turmoil(混乱) of the French Revolution In 1795 the Wordsworths stayed in a cottage in Dorset, where they met Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey. In the years ahead a close relationship developed between William, Dorothy and Coleridge (柯勒律治). Greatly affected by his brothers death in 1805 Literary Career British poet, who spent his life in the Lake District of Northern England. William Wordsworth started with Samuel Taylor Coleridge the English Romantic movement with their collection LYRICAL BALLADS in 1798. When many poets still wrote about ancient heroes in grandiloquent style, Wordsworth focused on the nature, children, the poor, common people, in his poem, he aimed at simplicity and purity of the language, so he used ordinary words to express his personal feelings. His definition of poetry as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings arising from emotion recollected in tranquility was shared by a number of his followers. About 1798 he started to write a large and philosophical autobiographical poem, completed in 1805, and published posthumously in 1850 under the title The Prelude.
