Reading (Page 25) To honor Alexander Graham Bell who invented the telephone in 1876 Alexander Graham Bell is known as much of his work for deaf education as for his inventions. Both his mother and his wife were deaf, which profoundly influenced Bells lifes work. He became a professor of vocal physiology at Boston University. His job was to help deaf people to understand speaking people and to make themselves understood by learning how to speak.
