Coal enterprises in China belong to the specialproduction-oriented enterprises, generally have poor production conditions, large-scaleenterprises, weak science and technology capacity , the weight economic burden and othercharacteristics. Against this background, the reasearch of coal enterprises’ competitiveness,especially coal enterprises how to obtain, maintain and update the core competitiveness isvery necessary.Under the analysis of the international changes within the scope of the current situationin the world and the coal industry development, detailed analysis the development of Chinesecoal industry, this context proposed the current opportunities and challenges which the coalindustry development facing.Using SWOT analysis method, analysing Z company’s externalenvironment and internal conditions, identifing the threats and opportunities the companyfaced, in order to make the company able to formulate better development strategies. Andfrom Z companysseven aspects including strategic decision-making ability, operationmanagement, management model, technology development, corporate culture, marketing andhuman resources to analyze the companys internal environment,from Z corporation’s macroenvironment,industry environment and competitor three aspects to anlysis the companyscurrent external environment, on the basis of the above analysis proposed viable means toimprove the Z companys core competitiveness.Conclusions of this study can not only help Z company finding ways to construction andcultivate its core competence,but also have a certain reference value for other coal companies’d
