Evaluation of New Vision Advanced English Viewing Listening and Speaking （10B sand） Abstract：This paper tries to evaluate a college English book named new vision advanced English viewing listening and speaking course (NVAEVLSC), written by Chen Chan, Wang Lei Pan Wen Hong in 2010 and 2011. First，the author discussed the general purposes and types of ELT materials evaluation .Then after reviewing some influential ready-made criterion developed by experts in this field, the author makes a checklist for evaluating the coursebook in question. At last, the paper moves on to evaluate NVAEVLSC holistically. Purposes and significance of ELT material evaluation The wealth of published material in the market for English Language Teaching makes it difficult to choose an appropriate book for both college teachers and students. Textbook evaluation can help teachers and students select an appropriate book in their teaching and learning. Through textbook evaluation, teachers will choose textbooks that fit students’ learning level and make a better teaching strategy; for students they will understand their textbook more clearly and have big progress in learning. 2. Criterion for material evaluation In order to evaluate the material/textbook successfully, we require a set of resonance criterion on which judgment is sought. Many experts have set up a variety of checklists, guidelines and criterion for textbook evaluation. In this paper I’d like to review a few of them, and then with their help I come up my criterion for evaluating NVAEVLSC. Hutchinson waters (1987) see materials evaluation as “basically a matching process: matching needs and available solutions”.
