New Senior English For China Student’s Book 3 Unit 3 The Million Pound Bank Note Ping Xiang High School in Jiangxi Province Yu Qing Zhang Weiliang This class consists of six steps, every step of which uses multimedia to build an active and vivid atmosphere for students, to making them interested in English learning and master English better. Teaching aims: Students can know the background of this works, including the author, the director who adapted it for film and the leading role in this adapted film. Students can appreciate the differences between the play and the film. Students can act it out on the stage. Key points: How to make students appreciate the cultures of the western countries and author’s intention, and then, act the play out. Teaching tools: Multimedia and smart board Teaching procedures: Step1. Warming up At the beginning of the class, use multimedia to show some pictures of some hot TV series that are adapted from our country’s classical works: The Story of the Stone , Three Kingdoms, Heroes of the Marshes, using which to lead in the Million Pound Bank Note. Step2. The author: Mark Twain 1) Brief introduction (Show Mark Twain’s pictures and his brief introduction using multimedia) Mark Twain Born on November 30, 1835 in Florida, Missouri, of a Virginian family, Mark Twain was brought up in Hannibal, Missouri. He did many jobs, such as printer, river-boat pilot , reporter, writer. That gave him many experiences , which he used in his works. He died on April 21, 1910. 2) Evaluation (Use multimedia to show it to students directly) The evaluation given to him: (1) Americas best known literary figure (2)Americas short story writer (3) Novelist humorist (4) public speaker (5)literary giant 3) Quiz (Use multimedia to show the questions to save time and make the class effective) Let know how much you know about Mark Twain. 1.When and where was Mark Twain born?
