Period 5 Speaking and Writing
The General Idea of This Period:
This period has two aims—to encourage the Ss to think and talk creatively about their hobbies and interests and to organize their ideas into a composition and to enable the students to write a report about what is needed to practice for a sport or a hobby.
Teaching Aims:
1.Get the Ss to talk about their hobbies and interests.
2.Help the Ss write a report about what is needed to do to study a hobby.
Teaching Important Points:
1.Get the Ss to talk about their hobbies and interests.

Teaching Difficult Points:
1.How to talk about hobbies and interests.
2.How to write a report about what is needed to study a hobby.
Teaching Methods:
1.Discussion in pairs and in groups of four.
2.Practice to improve the students’ writing ability.
Teaching Aids:
1.A multimedia computer.
2.A projector.
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1 Revision
T:Good morning,boys and girls!Last class we listened to some stories about the ancient Olympic Games.Remember any of the stories?
S1:The story Atlanta.
S2:Phidippides’ journey to ask for help.He was a hero to the Greek people.In order to remember him,we have the event of marathon race.
S3:The passing of the Olympic torch.
Step 2 Making a Survey on Other’s Interests or Hobbies
Show some pictures in which the teacher is doing something she or he likes to arouse the students’ interest.
T:Look at these pictures.What am I doing?
Ss:Playing table tennis./Playing tennis./Growing flowers./Feeding fish.
T:Yes.And they are all my hobbies.What about you?Do you have any hobbies?
(Ask some students about their hobbies and the reason for their liking.
Get the students to ask their classmates about their interests or hobbies.)
T:Now I would like you to know more about your classmates.Please go around the classroom and interview at least 5 students about their hobbies and finish the form.This first student to finish the interview
