Period 5　 This period is not only a conclusion of the whole module but also an extension of the topic. The passage cultural corner is how US organizations help people give up smoking. Four Ds coming from the California Smokers’ Helpline are given to help people who want a cigarette. After that, follow some ideas to help people to give up smoking. Three questions are designed to test the readers’ understanding and the ability to solve problems. The task in this module is to prepare a presentation on the dangers of smoking. Activity 1 is to make a list of the dangers of smoking by using information from news items the students have seen in magazines or on TV. Then ask the students to discuss the items listed in activity 1 with other members in their group. After that, discuss the questions in activity 3. This task can train the students’ ability to do group work and their skills to organize an article. Module file is a summary as well as a self-assessment of this module. It may help the students to know whether they have mastered the main points or not.
