Gessner) 14 Projects NMG Gemini Near Infrared Spectrograph (GNIRS) DESCRIPTION: ?The Gemini Near Infrared Spectrograph is a $4.2 million long-slit spectrometer that has been mounted on the?Gemini South 8-meter Telescope on Cerro Pachon, Chile. It will operate from 1 to 5 um and will offer two plate scales and a range of dispersions. The instrument was scheduled received at Cerro Pachon October 2003. December 12, 2003 N-MM-050 MONSOON DESCRIPTION: The MONSOON Image Acquisition System is the NOAO solution for scalable, multichannel high-speed image acquisition system. Additional information can be found at the MONSOON website /ets/monsoon/. The MONSOON system has progressed past the initial stages with three systems tested and operational – two IR systems and one CCD Prototype system. Work is now focused on the development of the CCD 8 channel Lab system, the 64 channel IR Lab system and the 256 channel MONSOON for NEWFIRM system. RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS This month we held the MONSOON Status review (Dec.1, 2003). The Clock and Bias Board has been put out to quote mid-December for 9 boards for the NEWFIRM. Work is progressing on the IR Lab MONSOON system for testing the new Orion II devices. Work has continued on the CCD Lab MONSOON system designed to characterize the OTA CCD devices.
