What do you mean by …? 你说……是什么意思？ 这个句型还可说成What is meant by …? 或What does the word mean …? 或What’s your meaning by …? 这是在谈论语言时常用的句型，用来询问说话人的意图或某词语的意思。 eg. What do you mean by saying it? 你说这话是什么意思？ What do you mean by the word “gist”？ 你说“gist”这个词是什么意思？ 2.
