There is a shift from tangibles to intangibles assets as the basis for the core business competitiveness. Innovation is the main source of competency needed by all organizations (Drucker 1969). The knowledge economy is based on values different from those of traditional factors of production. “Knowledge is becoming the one critical factor of production – UK Prime Minister Tony Blair at the European Knowledge Management Conference, March 2000”. Value has shifted from products towards intangibles. The changes in increasingly un-predictable external environment, changes in our business models and organizational structures are underlying factors that make effective knowledge management crucial for our survival, let alone the ambitious goals of “Business Excellence” (Corporate Quality Bureau, January 2003). Geographic dispersion, localization moves, rapid globalization growth and a high level of turbulence in the workforce are challenging management issues slowing down the knowledge sharing processes. The increasing needs to establish partnerships and different networking structures within and beyond our organizational boundaries, increasing focus on culture of autonomy, responsibility and business excellence all demand organization-wide knowledge sharing.
