The primary target audience consists of network engineers and support professionals who are already familiar with TCP/IP. The Microsoft TCP/IP protocol suite is examined in this paper from the bottom up. Network traces are used throughout to help illustrate concepts. These traces were gathered and formatted using Microsoft Network Monitor, a software-based protocol tracing and analyses tool included in the Microsoft Systems Management Server product.
