Cultural Differences of Catering between China and Western Countries and their Origin Introduction Culture is a system of behaviors and beliefs passed from one generation to the next. The rules, language, religion, family systems, recreation and education that a group of people share provide predictability and safety in their daily lives. For convenience, in this paper, culture may be used as a divider in relation to food variables’ hierarchically. And this paper uses the word in a classificatory sense implying the pattern or style of behavior of a group of people who share it. Food habits may be used as an important, or even determining, criterion in this connection. People who have the same culture share the same food habits, that is, they share the same assemblage of food variables and catering culture. Peoples of different cultures enjoy different assemblages of food variables and catering culture. So it can be said that different cultures have different food choices and catering culture. As for Chinese food, there is an enormous variety that differs greatly from region to region. The most important aspect of Chinese food culture is the importance of food itself in Chinese culture. That Chinese cuisine is the greatest in the world is highly debatable and is essentially irrelevant. While in the West, catering culture is not developed fully, which can not reflect the characters of their culture typically, but the underdeveloped state itself is an outcome of cultural development.
