Depar tment of Electr onic Eng ineering , The Chinese University of H ong K ong , S ha T ian , H ong K ong Abstract: H ow to get hig h efficient data routing for the limited energy resource netw or ks is an impo rtant pro blem in the study of the w ireless sensor netw orks. Appling the Ant Colo ny Optimization Alg orithm ( ACO) on the routing o f w ireless senso r netw orks, w e pr opo sed an ACO-based ro uting algor ithm for w ire- less sensor netw orks called ARAWSN. T he algo rithm utilized the self-o rganization, self-adaptability and dynamic optim ization capabilities o f the Ant Co lony to build and m aintain the optim al netw ork path. It a- dopted the co nception of Stig mergy to m inimize the flow number of the control information and achieve hig h efficient data tr ansitions for the netw ork. In o ur experim ent, the average time delay using the ACO- based ro uting alg orithm is com parativ e to that o f Directed Diffusion ( DD) algorithm but has notable effect in the energ y cost of routing com pared to DD alg orithm . In addition , this alg orithm also has g ood dependability and high adaptability . And it can also achieve cong estion control and energy balance for w ireless senso r netw orks if needed.
