The China Study

Greetings! As you must know, I have been exploring nutrition and health for years. While I am fully aware that I am not a nutritionist, and have almost no formal education in this topic, it remains something that I find myself greatly inspired to learn more about. I received for my birthday last year a book called The China Study by T. Colin Campbell. It is written by a scientist who, in the course of trying to prove that the standard American diet is healthy, proved that we humans are much better off consuming less than 10% of our total daily food calories as animal products. The current average American consumption is 15% protein, and add to that around 20% more of our diet as animal fats, and we have the result of epedimic levels of diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. This book has taught me that I need to eat more fruits and veggies at every meal to be the healthiest I can be. This book has explained why I get so confused when I read the health section of the newspaper and find two studies published side by side that contradict each other. This book has demystified the USRDA recommendations, and debunked many nutritional myths. I have found this book to be so valuable that I have been recommending that many of my friends and clients read it. However, it is about 350 pgs long, and many people have said they siimply dont have the time to get to it, or the patience to follow the long list of details provided in the scientific studies. So I have taken it upon myself to write a book report. I have condensed it about 10:1 into 34 pages. If you dont have time to read the full 34 pages, please read just the introduction, only the first two or three pages . You can get the message in a nutshell this way. However, the compelling aspect of the book is the number of peer-reviewed studies referenced that support the authors thesis that a predominantly plant-based diet is the most healthy for humans, and that nearly all of
