Methods: Five hundred and seventy nine formulas of methylphenidate hydrochloride tablets in out patient clinic (OPD) from February to July 2008 were counted, with the analysis of gender, age, medication frequency and the use condition. Defined daily dose (DDD) and drug use index (DUI) were designated as indexes for statistics, analysis and evaluation.Results: The proportion of male and female children received the methylphenidate hydrochloride tablets formulas in our hospital was 5:1. In all the formulas, 70.00% was for 7 to 10 year old children, 98.96% usage was once in morning or once in morning and midday, respectively. The DUI value was 0.72.
