English Underachievers in Primary School
According to the Criteria for English Courses :“English courses for all students and focus on quality education”. It requires English teachers to respect students individual differences,and pay attention to every student’s learning.English teachers should pay attention to all the students’ growth and development.Of course, it also include those underachievers who fell behind the class in their study . The main task of the primary school English teaching is to inspire students interest in learning English ,establish students’ confidence ,develop their learning habits and form effective learning strategies,and lay a good foundation for the future English learning.The English underachievers are very common in primary school. Although they are just a small number of students,but teachers cannot ignored those students because they have a bad influence for the whole class.They are not interested in English study for many reasons.Just like lack of self-confidence,bad learning habits and no effective learning strategies.These factors seriously affected their later English study. I have been teach students of grade four since 2014.They belong to middle primary school students. The bodies and brains of these children are growing rapidly. Their emotion waves sharply and they are also less of self-control.They also have to face many troubles in their study and daily life.In this age,the training of good learning habits is very important, particularly for the underachievers.In this paper, I have made an investigation about 40 English underachievers in our school. Through the investigation we can concluded that the English underachievers have many characteristics in common.Then with a theoretical discussion of the underachievers in general,after that moves on to a study on the cause of the primary school English underachievers.
