Thispaperdescribesanoperationalsemanticsforfutures, withtheprimarytargetonenergyef?-
ciency. The work in progress is built around an insight that different threads can coordinate by
runningatdifferent“paces,”sothatthetimeforsynchronizationandtheresultingwastefulenergy
consumptioncanbereduced.Weexploitseveralinherentcharacteristicsoffuturestodeterminehow
