Departm ent of Life and En ironmental Sciences, Huangshan Un i ersity, H uangshan 245041, Ch ina) Abstract: Phenotyp ic distributions of prmi ary branch num ber ( PBN) and secondary branch number ( SBN) per pan iclew ere in- estigated in B ing 8979, C B ao and their recomb inan t inbred lines ( 370) in 2005 ( F7B 8 ) and 2006 ( F8B 9 ). Genetic analysis for the two traits w ere conducted by using m ixed m ajor-gene plus polygenes inheritance m ode.l The resu lts indicated that PBN per pan icle was controlled by two linkage m ajor genes p lus polygenes. M ajor gene heritab ility w as 66% in 2005 and 40% in 2006, polygene heritability w as 11% in 2005 and 41% in 2006. SBN per panicle was controlled by wt o m ajor genes plus polygenes. M ajor gene heritab ility was 80% in 2005 and 65% in 2006, wh ile polygene heritab ility w as 10% in 2005 and 12% in 2006. Key words: japon ica rice; prmi ary branch number per pan icle; secondary bra
