PlumbaginanditsCu(II)complex[Cu(plumbagin)2]·H2Ohavebeensynthesized,andtheirantioxidantactivitiestowardsthe inhibitorye?ect on DPPH freeradical, reducingpower, total antioxidant capacity, and inhibitionon lipid peroxidation were investigated.PlumbaginanditsCu(II)complexwerefoundtoexhibitscavengingactivitiesonDPPHradicalwiththeinhibitory rateof 41% and 24%, respectively. Thereducing power of plumbagin was outstanding at theconcentrations of 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0mg/mL,comparedtoCu(II)complexandsyntheticantioxidant2,6-di-ter-butyl-4-methylphenol(BHT);thehighestlevel reached1.333forplumbaginand0.581forCu(II)complex.Also,theinhibitiononlipidperoxidationofplumbaginwashigher thanthatofCu(II)complexandBHT,46.4%forplumbaginand24.5%forCu(II)complex.Theresultsgiveastrongimpactfor designinganticancerdrugs,combinedwiththeirpotentialcytotoxicandantioxidantactivities,whichcanbetargetedselectively againstcancercellsandincreasetheirtherapeuticindexandadditionaladvantagesoverotheranticancerdrugs. 1.Introduction naphthoquinonewasextractedfromPlumbagozeylanicaL,a Chinesetraditionalmedicine.Itw
