Indirectimmuno?uorescence(IIF)onhumanepithelial(HEp-2)cellsisconsideredasthegoldstandardscreeningmethodforthe detectionofantinuclearautoantibodies(ANA).However,intermsofautomationandstandardization,ithasnotbeenabletokeep pacewithmostotheranalyticaltechniquesusedindiagnosticlaboratories.Althoughtherearealreadysomeautomationsolutions forIIFincubationinthemarket,theautomationofresultevaluationisstillinitsinfancy.Therefore,theEUROPatternSuitehas beendevelopedasacomprehensiveautomatedprocessingandinterpretationsystemforstandardizedande?cientANAdetection byHEp-2cell-basedIIF.Inthisstudy,theautomatedpatternrecognitionwascomparedtoconventionalvisualinterpretationin atotalof351sera.Inthediscriminationofpositivefromnegativesamples,concordantresultsbetweenvisualandautomated evaluationwereobtainedfor349sera(99.4%,kappa=0.984).Thesystemmissedoutnoneofthe272antibody-positivesamples andidenti?ed77outof79visuallynegativesamples(analyticalsensitivity/speci?city:100%/97.5%).Moreover,94.0%ofallmain antibodypatternswererecog
