AnAnalysisofHumanMicroRNAandDisease Associations MingLu1,2.,QipengZhang1,2.,MinDeng1,2.,JingMiao3,YanhongGuo2,WeiGao2,QinghuaCui1,2* 1Department of MedicalInformatics, Peking University Health Science Center, Beijing,China, 2Ministry ofEducation KeyLaboratory ofMolecular Cardiology, Peking University,Beijing,China,3DepartmentofPediatrics,PekingUniversityFirstHospital,Beijing,China Abstract IthasbeenreportedthatincreasinglymicroRNAsareassociatedwithdiseases.However,thepatternsamongthemicroRNA- diseaseassociationsremainlargelyunclear.Inthisstudy,inordertodissectthepatternsofmicroRNA-diseaseassociations,we performed a comprehensive analysis to the human microRNA-disease association data, which is manually collected from publications.WebuiltahumanmicroRNAassociateddiseasenetwork.Interestingly,microRNAstendtoshowsimilarordifferent dysfunctionalevidencesforthesimilarordifferentdiseaseclusters,respectively.Anegativecorrelationbetweenthetissue- specificityofamicroRNAandthenumberofdiseasesitassociatedwasuncovered.Furthermore,weobservedanassociation betweenmicroRNAconservationanddisease.Finally,weuncoveredthatmicroRNAsassociatedwiththesamediseasetendto emergeaspredefinedmicroRNAgroups.Thesefindingscannotonlyprovidehelpinunderstandingtheassociationsbetween microRNAsandhumandiseasesbutalsosuggestanewwaytoidentifynoveldisease-associatedmicroRNAs.
