C. cinerea and the fungi Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Schizosaccharomyces pombe diverged ,500–900 million years ago, permitting a comparison of transcriptional programs acrossabroadevolutionarytimescale.PreviousstudiesofS.cerevisiaeandS.pombecomparedgenesthatwereinduced uponentryintomeiosis;inclusionofC.cinereadataindicatesthatmeioticgenesaremoreconservedintheirpatternsof inductionacrossspeciesthangenesnotknowntobemeiotic.Inaddition,wefoundthatmeioticgenesaresignificantly moreconservedi
