In this study, renal deficiency for Mas diminished renal damage in models of renal insufficiency as unilateral ureteral obstructionandischemia/reperfusioninjurywhiletheinfusionofAng-(1–7)towild-typemicepronouncedthepathological outcomebyaggravatingtheinflammatoryresponse.MasdeficiencyinhibitedNF-kBactivationandthustheelevationof inflammation-stimulating cytokines, while Ang-(1–7) infusion had proinflammatory properties in experimental models of renalfailureaswellasunderbasalconditions.TheAng-(1–7)-mediatedNF-kBactivationwasMasdependentbutdidnot involveAngIIreceptors.Therefore,theblockadeoftheNF-kB-activatingpropertiesofthereceptorMascouldbeanew strategyinthetherapyoffailingkidney.
