Here, we analyse the early progression of the epidemic from 26 May 2009 until the establishmentofcommunitytransmissioninthesecondhalfofJuly2009inHoChiMinhCity(HCMC),Vietnam.Inaddition, wepresentdetailedsystematicviralclearancedataon292isolatedandtreatedpatientsandthefirstthreecasesofselection ofresistantvirusduringtreatmentinVietnam. MethodsandFindings:DatasourcesincludedallavailablehealthreportsfromtheMinistryofHealthandrelevanthealth authoritiesaswellasclinicalandlaboratorydatafromthefirstconfirmedcasesisolatedattheHospitalforTropicalDiseases in HCMC.
