We assessed whether the risk for SCA is increased in epilepsy by determiningtheriskforSCAamongpeoplewithactiveepilepsyinacommunity-basedstudy. MethodsandResults:ThisinvestigationwaspartoftheAmsterdamResuscitationStudies(ARREST)intheNetherlands.It wasdesignedtoassessSCAriskinthegeneralpopulation.AllSCAcasesinthestudyareawereidentifiedandmatchedto controls(byage,sex,andSCAdate).Adiagnosisofactiveepilepsywasascertainedinallcasesandcontrols.Relativeriskfor SCAwasestimatedbycalculatingtheadjustedoddsratiosusingconditionallogisticregression(adjustmentwasmadefor knownriskfactorsforSCA).Weidentified1019casesofSCAwithECG-documentedVF,andmatchedthemto2834controls. Therewere12peoplewithactiveepilepsyamongcasesand12amongcontrols.Epilepsywasassociatedwithathree-fold increasedriskforSCA(adjustedOR2.9[95%CI1.1–8.0.],p=0.034).Therisk
