Optimalselection resultedingreaterresponsetoselectionthanstandardQTLorphenotypicselection.Tightlinkage betweentheQTL(recombinationrate0.05)resultedinaslightlylowerresponseforstandard QTLandphenotypicselectionbutinagreaterresponseforoptimalselection.Optimalselection capitalizedonlinkagebyemphasizingselectiononfavorablehaplotypes. Whentheobjective wastomaximizetotalresponseaftertengenerationsandQTLwereunlinked,optimalselection increasedQTLfrequenciesto?xationinanearlinearmanner. Whenstartingfrequencieswere equalforthetwoQTL,equalemphasiswasgiventoeachQTL,regardlessofthedifference ineffectsoftheQTLandregardlessofthelinkage,buttheemphasisgiventoeachofthetwo QTLwasnotadditive.
