Methods:Anonlinesurveywasundertakenofthoseusingoutcomemeasuresacrosstheregion,aspartofthe PRISMAproject.AquestionnaireaddressingtheuseofOMswasdevelopedforasimilarsurveyinEuropeand adaptedforAfrica.ParticipantsweresampledthroughthecontactsdatabaseofAPCA.Invitationemailsweresent outinJanuary2010andremindersinFebruary2010. Results:168/301invitedcontacts(56%)from24countriesresponded,with78respondentshavingpreviouslyused OM(65%inclinicalpractice,12%inresearchand23%forboth).MainreasonsfornotusingOMwerealackof guidance/trainingonusingandanalysingOM,with49%sayingthattheywouldusethetoolsifthiswasprovided. 40%ofthoseusingOMinclinicalpracticeusedPOS,and80%usedthemtoassess,evaluateandmonitorchange. ThePOSwasalsothemaintoolusedinresearch,withtheprinciplecriteriaforusebeingvalidationinAfrica, accesstothetoolandtimeneededtocompleteit.Challengestotheuseoftoolswereshortageoftimeand resources,lackofguidanceandtrainingfortheprofessionals,poorhealthstatusofpatientsandcomplexityofOM. ResearchersalsohaveproblemsanalysingOMdata.TheAPCAAfricanPOSwasthemostcommonversionofthe POSused,andwasreportedasavaluabletoolformeasuringoutcomes.Respondentsindicatedtheidealoutcome toolshouldbeshort,multi-dimensionalandeasytouse. Conclusion:Thiswasthefirstsurveyonprofessionals’viewsonOMinAfrica.ItshowedthattheAPCAAfricanPOS wasthemost
