Methodology/Principal Findings:AprospectivepilotstudywascarriedoutinAthensfrom9/2007to4/2008.Thestudy samplewasextractedfrompatients,operatedbyeightdifferentsurgeons,whovolunteeredtofillinapost-surgeryself- report questionnaire on IC. A composite delivered information index and a patient-physician relationship index were constructedforthepurposesoftheanalysis.Intotal,77patients(42males)volunteeredtorespondtothequestionnaire. Thedeliveredinformationindexscoresrangedfrom3to10,themeanscorewas8,andthestandarddeviation(SD)was1.9. Allpatientswereawareoftheirunderlyingdiagnosisandreasonforsurgery.However, aconsiderable proportionofthe respondents(14.3%)achievedascorebeloworequalto5.Thepatient-physicianrelationshipscoresrangedfrom0to20, themeanscorewas16andthestandarddeviation(SD)was4.3.Thebetterthepatient-physicianrelationship,themore informationwasfinallydeliveredtothepatientfromthephysician(Spearman’srank-ordercorrelationcoefficientwas0.4 andp,0.001).Delivered informationindexwassignificantly higher amongparticipants who comprehendedtherightto informedconsent,comparedtoparticipantswhodidnot(p,0.001),andamongparticipantswhoweregiveninformation regardingotherpossibletherapeuticoptions(p=0.001).
