Theaimofthisstudywastoanalyzetheindividual/lifestyledeterminantsoffracturesacrosspediatricagegroups. Methods:Across-sectionalstudywasperformedinthefirstsixmonthsof2008throughquestionnaireona sampleofchildrenfromanoutpatientclinicforpediatricfractures.Differencesingender,anatomicsite, circumstancesandlocationoffractureoccurrence,behaviourallifestyle,andcalciumintakewereinvestigated amongthreedifferentageclasses(pre-schoolchildren,schoolchildren,andadolescents). Results:Thesampleconsistedof382subjects(2-14yearsofage)sustainingafractureafterlowormoderate trauma.Maleswereatahigherriskoffracturesthanfemales;greaterthantwo-thirdsofinjuriesoccurredafterlow- energytraumaandtheupperlimbwasmorefrequentlyinvolved.Withincreasingage,themale/femaleratioand timespentinsportsparticipationincreased(p0.001),whilecalciumintakeandtimespentinsedentarybehaviors decreased(p0.001and0.003,respectively).Genderdiscordanceexistedinpre-schoolchildrenwithrespectto theanatomiclocation,andinschoolchildrenandadolescentswithrespecttothedynamics.Intheadolescent group,malesweremorephysicallyactiveandalsomoresedentarythanfemales.Fracturesmostfrequently occurredinhomes(41.6%),followedbyplaygroundsandfootpaths(26.2%),sportsfacilities(18.3%),and educationalfacilities(13.9%),withgenderdifferencesexistingonlyinadolescence.Twenty-threepercentofthe subjectssustainedoneormorefracturesinthepast.Thepercentageofrecurrentfracturesincreasedwithage(p= 0.001),withasimilartrendinbothgenders. Conclusions:Genderdifferenceswereshownintheprevalenceofinjuries,characteristics,andcircumstances acrossages.Thesedifferencesmaybeexpla
